Coastal planting fails for two reasons: salt burn on the foliage and wind that never stops. The species here handle both, and several are used on front-line dune plantings where nothing else survives.

Coastal Tea Tree, Moonah, Westringia and Banksia integrifolia are the toughest options and will take direct exposure. Behind a first line of shelter you can widen the range considerably to include lilly pilly, olive and Norfolk Island Pine.
