Japanese Maples
Japanese Maples (Acer palmatum) are deciduous ornamental trees renowned for finely cut foliage, refined branching structure, and outstanding seasonal colour. The collection covers the full range of cultivars grown in Australia — from upright forms like Atropurpureum, Senkaki and Osakazuki through to weeping dissectum types including Inaba Shidare, Orangeola, Bronze and Waterfall, plus rare collector cultivars such as Nishiki Fountain, Red Pygmy and Okushimo.
Japanese Maples perform best in part-shade positions sheltered from harsh afternoon sun and drying wind, in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soils. They suit cool temperate and warm temperate gardens across Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and inland NSW, and are equally well-suited to large decorative pots and courtyard plantings.
They look excellent in formal entry plantings, Japanese-inspired gardens, courtyards, raised beds, and feature container positions where their seasonal foliage, autumn colour and refined form can be appreciated year-round.
