Michelia alba is a highly sought-after evergreen flowering tree known for its intensely fragrant white blooms, glossy green leaves, and lush, upright form. Reaching a mature height of 8–12 metres (or more in tropical zones) and a width of 4–6 metres, it makes a stunning feature tree in warm-climate gardens, subtropical courtyards, and premium residential landscapes.
From spring through summer, Michelia alba produces clusters of white to creamy flowers with a powerful, jasmine-like scent. The fragrance is strongest in the early morning and evening, often carrying across the garden. Its dense, glossy foliage adds year-round greenery and a tropical softness to its surroundings.
This species performs best in full sun to part shade, in well-drained, fertile soils, and with protection from frost. In cooler zones, it can be grown in large containers and moved into shelter during cold periods.
