ATLANTIS - Egg Shape Pot

It is a hand-made glazed pot, finished with a crusty glaze that ranges from whitish through toasted shades, sometimes with hints of turquoise. The surface is made new but deliberately finished to look weathered, as though it has spent time in the sea. Because the glaze is applied by hand, no two pots come out quite the same.

Three sizes are made: D54 x H43cm, D47 x H37cm and D37 x H30cm. Dimensions are approximate because the pots are hand-made and sizes vary a little from piece to piece. If you are fitting a pot into a tight alcove or a set space, allow a few centimetres either way.

Yes. The Atlantis pots, urns and jars are frost resistant, so they can stay outside through winter in most Australian conditions. As with any planter, keep the drainage clear so water does not sit in the base and freeze. Raising the pot slightly on feet helps water move away after heavy rain.

Yes. The Atlantis range is well suited to flowing water features, and the glaze reads particularly well when wet. As with any pot used to hold water, the inside should be properly sealed before it is filled. A little glaze may shed when the film wrap first comes off, which settles quickly.

It does. Every pot is hand-made and hand-glazed, so the crusty surface shifts between whitish and toasted tones, with the odd hint of turquoise. Finishes may vary from the pot shown in the photograph. If you are ordering several for a matched grouping, expect a family resemblance rather than an exact match.

The largest at D54 x H43cm takes a clipped buxus or ficus ball, a small olive or a compact citrus. The D47 x H37cm size suits a mid sized topiary or a mass of succulents. The smallest at D37 x H30cm is better with herbs, sedums or a single sculptural agave.

Wash it with mild soapy water and a soft bristle brush or a rag, then rinse. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasives, which will dull the glaze. Mineral marks from potting mix can be wiped back as they appear. Empty the pot before a hard freeze if it is holding water.
