About Your New GEO ROK - Black Egg Pot
The Geo Rok Black Egg Pot is a glass fibre reinforced cement planter with a full egg profile and a narrow base. It belongs to the Geo Rok collection, a range built around timeless shapes and careful detailing. Sizes run from D63cm x H53cm up to D112cm x H92cm with a 55cm base.
Glass fibre reinforced cement, or GFRC, is roughly twice as strong as fibre glass and much lighter than solid concrete. It resists UV and water penetration, so the surface holds its colour outdoors and the wall does not soak up moisture. The D112cm size weighs about 80kg, the D63cm about 13kg.
The material takes light and heavy duty use in both commercial and domestic landscaping, and will handle most reasonable wear and tear. Only the roughest treatment calls for steel or heavy concrete instead. Use it in foyers, forecourts, courtyards and pool surrounds with an olive, a ficus ball or a feature tree.
Frequently Asked Questions
About Geo Rok Black Egg Pot
What is GFRC and why is it used for pots?
GFRC stands for glass fibre reinforced cement. It is cement reinforced with glass fibre rather than steel, which makes it about twice as strong as fibre glass while staying much lighter than solid concrete. It resists UV and water penetration, so it suits large outdoor containers that need strength without unmanageable weight.
What sizes and weights does the Black Egg Pot come in?
Four sizes are made. D112cm x H92cm with a 55cm base at 80kg, D90cm x H75cm with a 43cm base at 44kg and roughly 250 litres, D75cm x H63cm with a 34cm base at 28kg, and D63cm x H53cm with a 30cm base at 13kg.
Will the black finish fade in the sun?
The material is resistant to UV, so the finish is made to hold up in full Australian sun rather than chalk off after a season. Dark finishes do run warmer than pale ones in summer, so in a hot, exposed position keep the potting mix moist and mulched to protect roots.
Is it strong enough for commercial landscaping?
Yes. The Geo Rok range is used on both light and heavy duty commercial and domestic projects and stands up to most reasonable wear and tear. The exception is genuinely extreme treatment, vehicle contact or deliberate abuse, where steel or heavy concrete is the only sensible option.
How much potting mix does it hold?
The D90cm x H75cm size holds roughly 250 litres, which gives a useful sense of scale for the rest of the range. The larger D112cm x H92cm takes noticeably more, the smaller sizes proportionally less. Order enough quality potting mix to fill the pot in one go rather than topping up in layers.
What plants suit an egg shaped pot this size?
The wide belly and narrow base suit a single strong specimen. Advanced olives, clipped ficus or buxus balls, magnolias, frangipani and slender feature trees all work in the larger sizes. In the D63cm size, try a topiary standard, a dwarf citrus or a full planting of agaves and sedums.
How do I clean and care for it?
Lift marks with mild soapy water and a soft bristle brush such as a nail brush, then rinse. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasives. Keep the drainage clear so water is not held against the base, and use pot feet on paving so moisture can escape from underneath after rain.
