ATLANTIS Tall U Pot

It is a tall, hand-made planter with a U shaped body that tapers towards the base, part of the Atlantis range of pots, urns and jars. The crusty glaze is finished to look weathered, shifting between whitish and toasted shades. The height gives planting presence in narrow spots where a wide pot will not fit.

Three sizes are made: D54cm x H68cm holding about 125 litres, D44cm x H55cm, and D34cm x H50cm. Because the pots are hand-made, the measurements are approximate and vary slightly between pieces. The 125 litre size holds enough potting mix to support a standard or a small advanced plant for years.

It will. The Atlantis pots are frost resistant and are made to live outdoors year round in Australian conditions. The usual precaution applies: make sure water drains away rather than pooling in the base, and lift the pot onto feet or pavers if it is sitting on soil that stays wet.

Yes. The finish is fired and stable, so it works just as well in an entry hall, a light filled living room or a commercial foyer. Indoors, stand it on a saucer or use a liner pot so water cannot reach the floor. The glaze is heavy enough that the pot will not shift once planted.

No. The colour is in the fired glaze rather than a surface paint, so full Australian sun will not bleach it. The look is intentionally weathered from the outset, and the surface tends to gain character rather than lose it. Mineral deposits from potting mix may appear over time and wipe off easily.

The tall shape suits upright and trailing plants. A standard olive, a clipped conifer, a slim ficus or a bay works well in the D54cm x H68cm size. Smaller sizes take rosemary, lavender, dwarf citrus or succulents that spill over the rim. Avoid heavy rooted plants like bamboo in the smallest pot.

Clean it with mild soapy water and a soft bristle brush or rag, then rinse off the suds. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive pads away from the glaze. If the pot is running as a water feature, empty it occasionally and wipe the interior. Check that drainage stays clear after heavy rain.
