Camellias
Camellias are dense evergreen flowering shrubs producing reliable cool-season blooms when few other plants are in flower. The collection spans the major groups — sasanqua (autumn to winter flowering, sun tolerant, ideal for hedging), japonica (winter to spring flowering, part-shade specimens), williamsii hybrids (clean self-shedding flowers) and reticulata (large-bloomed specimens) — across 90+ cultivars including 'Marge Miller' Standards, 'Setsugekka', 'Plantation Pink', 'Black Magic', 'Pink Gold', 'Volcano' and 'Kingyo-tsubaki' Fishtail Camellia.
Camellias perform best in well-drained, slightly acidic soils enriched with organic matter. Sasanquas tolerate full sun to part shade; japonicas prefer morning sun with afternoon shade. Frost tolerant once established and suited to cool temperate and warm temperate gardens across Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and inland NSW.
They look excellent for formal hedging, narrow screening, feature planting, foundation positions, courtyards and large decorative containers. Commonly specified where dense evergreen structure and reliable cool-season flowering are required.
