Olive Trees
Olive Trees (Olea europaea) are evergreen Mediterranean trees prized for silver-grey foliage, sculptural twisted trunks and edible fruit. The collection covers proven Australian-suited cultivars — fruiting varieties 'Kalamata', 'Manzanillo', 'Mission', 'Correggiola' and 'Garden Harvest' for table and oil production; non-fruiting 'Swan Hill' for street and feature planting; and upright forms such as 'Tolley's Upright' and 'Del Morocco' for narrow positions.
Olive Trees perform best in full sun with well-drained soil and a hot, dry climate. They tolerate a wide range of soils including poor and rocky conditions, are highly drought tolerant once established, frost tolerant, and resistant to most pests and diseases. Suited to Mediterranean, warm temperate and inland Australian climates.
They look excellent in courtyards, formal entry plantings, driveways, productive orchards and Mediterranean-style gardens where the silver foliage, sculptural trunk and low water requirements are valued. Commonly specified for low-maintenance commercial and civic plantings.
