Zelkova serrata ‘Wireless’, commonly known as the Wireless Japanese Zelkova, is a graceful, spreading deciduous tree valued for its broad canopy and exceptional branch structure. Selected for its low-growing, vase-shaped form, it reaches 5–6 metres tall and spreads up to 8 metres wide—making it ideal for use under powerlines or where height restrictions apply. The fine-textured green foliage turns brilliant shades of orange, red, and bronze in autumn, providing an impressive seasonal display.
This hardy, fast-growing tree thrives in full sun and well-drained soils. Zelkova ‘Wireless’ is drought tolerant once established and handles urban conditions including wind, heat, and pollution. It’s resistant to Dutch elm disease and makes a superb low-maintenance alternative to traditional elms for street and park plantings.
They look excellent as feature trees, in avenues, or used for shade in residential or civic landscapes. The combination of compact height, wide-spreading canopy, and spectacular autumn colour makes this variety a practical and ornamental choice for modern urban environments.
