About Eucalyptus pulchella – White Peppermint
Eucalyptus pulchella, commonly known as White Peppermint, is a Tasmanian native tree recognised for its slender, upright form and aromatic foliage. The bark is smooth and white to pale grey, shedding in ribbons to create attractive trunk patterns. Leaves are narrow, glossy green, and strongly peppermint-scented when crushed. In summer, it bears clusters of small white flowers that are highly attractive to pollinators. Mature specimens typically reach 10–20 metres tall with a spread of 4–8 metres, forming a fine, airy crown.
This species is fast growing and hardy once established. Eucalyptus pulchella is drought tolerant, frost hardy, and thrives in a wide range of well-drained soils. It prefers full sun and requires little maintenance beyond formative pruning when young. Its foliage provides both fragrance and shelter, while the nectar-rich flowers support bird and insect life. Evergreen and resilient, it is particularly suited to temperate climates.
They look excellent when planted as feature trees, used in shelterbelts or windbreaks, or included in civic and native revegetation projects. Their narrow, upright habit also makes them effective in avenue plantings or larger residential landscapes where vertical structure is required.
