About Eucalyptus occidentalis
Eucalyptus occidentalis, commonly known as Flat Topped Yate or Swamp Yate, is a hardy, fast-growing evergreen native to Western Australia. With a mature height of up to 20 metres and a broad 10-metre canopy, it is ideal for large landscapes and rural plantings. This species features attractive smooth bark and a rounded crown that provides dense shade.
From April through August, it displays creamy yellow flowers that are highly attractive to birds, making it a great addition to wildlife-friendly gardens. It thrives in poor, sandy, or saline soils and shows excellent tolerance to drought and dry climates once established. Its size, structure, and resilience make it a popular choice for screening, shelterbelts, and informal avenue planting.
