About Your New Cotyledon orbiculata var. oblonga ‘Macrantha’ – Pig’s Ear Succulent
Cotyledon orbiculata var. oblonga ‘Macrantha’ is an evergreen succulent forming an upright to spreading clump of thick, fleshy leaves. The foliage is broad and oval, grey-green in colour with a smooth, waxy surface, and is held on sturdy stems that create a dense, architectural form. Leaves store moisture efficiently, giving the plant a substantial, sculptural presence.
It performs best in full sun to light shade and requires free-draining soils to prevent root issues. This species is well adapted to warm temperate and arid climates and tolerates heat, wind, and extended dry periods once established. Frost tolerance is limited, and plants perform best in frost-free or lightly protected locations. Maintenance is minimal, generally limited to removing spent flower stems or damaged leaves.
They look excellent in rockeries, raised beds, dry gardens, and container plantings in residential and commercial landscapes. This succulent is commonly specified where low water use, structural foliage, and reliable performance in dry conditions are required.
