About Aloe hybrida ‘Southern Cross’ – Southern Cross Aloe
Aloe hybrida ‘Southern Cross’, commonly known as Southern Cross Aloe, is a compact evergreen succulent valued for its attractive blue-green foliage and vibrant flowering display. Dense clumping rosettes provide year-round structure, while upright flower spikes deliver striking colour during the cooler months when many other garden plants are less active.
It performs best in full sun to light shade and free-draining soils, adapting well to coastal conditions, dry climates, and a wide range of landscape settings. Once established, Southern Cross Aloe develops excellent drought tolerance and requires very little maintenance, making it an ideal choice for waterwise gardens and contemporary landscapes.
They look excellent when used for mass planting, border displays, rockeries, coastal gardens, courtyard planting, and decorative containers where reliable flowering and evergreen structure are desired. The nectar-rich flowers attract birds and pollinators, adding seasonal wildlife interest to the garden.
