About Aeonium arboreum ‘Schwarzkopf’ – Black Rose Aeonium
Aeonium arboreum ‘Schwarzkopf’ produces some of the darkest foliage found in any succulent, with large glossy rosettes ranging from deep burgundy to near-black. The dramatic colouring creates strong contrast in garden beds, containers, and architectural plantings, making it a standout feature throughout the year.
It performs best in full sun to partial shade and free-draining soils. Strong sunlight encourages the richest foliage colour, while the branching habit gradually develops into a multi-headed specimen covered in symmetrical rosettes. Mature plants produce large yellow flower clusters during spring, creating a striking contrast against the dark foliage.
They look excellent when used in succulent gardens, decorative containers, rockeries, coastal landscapes, and courtyard plantings where bold foliage colour and strong architectural structure are desired. Its dramatic appearance makes it one of the most widely planted dark-foliage succulents in contemporary garden design.
