PLANT PROFILE
Rhapis excelsa, commonly known as the Lady Palm, is an elegant clumping palm valued for its fan-shaped fronds, slender cane-like stems, and graceful form. The lush, deep green leaves are divided into broad, ribbed segments that create a soft yet structured appearance. Slow-growing and refined, this palm forms dense clumps that typically reach 2–4 metres tall and 1.5–3 metres wide, offering a tropical feel in both outdoor and indoor settings.
This hardy evergreen thrives in part to full shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Rhapis excelsa is ideal for courtyards, shaded gardens, or indoor containers and performs well in temperate and subtropical climates. It’s low-maintenance, frost tolerant once established, and particularly well-suited to low-light environments, making it one of the best palms for interiors.
They look excellent as feature plants in courtyards, grouped for lush screening in shaded gardens, or as statement specimens in pots. The Lady Palm’s timeless elegance, versatility, and resilience make it a favourite for both garden designers and indoor plant enthusiasts.
