About Your New Quercus phellos – Willow Oak
Quercus phellos, commonly known as Willow Oak, is a large deciduous tree with a strong central trunk and a broad, rounded canopy at maturity. It produces narrow, willow-like leaves that are smooth-edged and bright green through spring and summer, creating a refined and uniform canopy texture.
It performs best in full sun and prefers well-drained soils with consistent moisture during establishment. Willow Oak is well suited to temperate and cool temperate climates and tolerates frost, wind exposure, and urban conditions. Growth is moderate to steady, developing into a substantial shade tree over time.
They look excellent when used for avenue planting, street trees, and large feature shade trees in residential, civic, and park landscapes. This species is commonly specified where long-term canopy development and structural presence are required.
