About Your New Geijera parvifolia – Wilga
Geijera parvifolia, commonly known as Wilga, is a hardy Australian native tree recognised for its fine, weeping foliage and tolerance of dry conditions. Its leaves are narrow, linear, and grey-green, forming a soft, pendulous canopy that moves in the wind. In spring and summer, small clusters of cream-coloured flowers appear, providing subtle seasonal interest. Mature specimens typically grow 6–10 metres in height with a spread of 4–6 metres, forming an elegant, rounded crown.
This species has a moderate growth rate and is highly drought tolerant once established, making it especially suited to arid and inland climates. Geijera parvifolia is evergreen and performs best in full sun with free-draining soils, though it adapts well to poor and sandy sites. It is frost hardy, wind tolerant, and requires little maintenance, aside from occasional pruning to remove lower branches or maintain shape.
They look excellent when planted as shade trees in dry landscapes, used in avenues, or included in native gardens where their fine foliage provides contrast. Wilgas are also suitable for streetscapes and civic plantings due to their toughness and adaptability.
