About Euphorbia enopla – Pincushion Euphorbia
Euphorbia enopla, commonly known as Pincushion Euphorbia, is a compact evergreen succulent valued for its upright clustering stems and colourful spines. The cylindrical green stems develop dense rows of prominent red to reddish-purple spines, creating a distinctive textured appearance throughout the year. As plants mature, they gradually form dense clumps, making them well suited to smaller landscape spaces and container displays.
It performs best in full sun and free-draining soils and is highly suited to warm temperate, coastal, and dry inland climates. Strong sunlight encourages the most intense spine colouration. Once established, Pincushion Euphorbia develops excellent drought tolerance and requires very little maintenance beyond occasional removal of damaged stems.
They look excellent when used in succulent gardens, rockeries, decorative containers, courtyards, and waterwise landscapes where compact architectural form and colourful stem detail are desired. Its manageable size and distinctive appearance make it a commonly specified plant for contemporary succulent collections and small-space garden designs.
