Cupressus glabra ‘Blue Ice’, commonly known as Blue Ice Arizona Cypress, is a striking evergreen conifer valued for its distinctive foliage colour and narrow form. Its fine, scale-like leaves are an intense silvery-blue, held densely along upright branches, giving the tree a bold architectural appearance. Mature specimens generally reach 10–15 metres tall with a spread of 3–4 metres, forming a conical, upright crown.
This cultivar has a moderate to fast growth rate and is tolerant of a wide range of soils provided they are well-drained. Cupressus glabra ‘Blue Ice’ is drought tolerant once established, frost hardy, and thrives in full sun. It is low-maintenance and long-lived, requiring little beyond occasional pruning to maintain symmetry. Its colourful foliage and resilience make it well suited to both ornamental and practical landscape uses.
They look excellent when planted as avenue trees, grouped for shelter planting, or used as feature specimens in large gardens. Their unique foliage colour also provides contrast in formal or contemporary designs, while their hardiness makes them popular in civic and rural landscapes.
