About Cereus repandus (syn. Cereus peruvianus) – Peruvian Apple Cactus
Cereus repandus, commonly sold as Cereus peruvianus and known as Peruvian Apple Cactus, is a fast-growing columnar cactus prized for its impressive architectural form, blue-green stems, and large fragrant flowers. The upright ribbed stems create a striking vertical feature, making it one of the most popular cacti for contemporary, desert, and waterwise landscapes.
It performs best in full sun and free-draining soils, thriving in hot, dry conditions with minimal maintenance. Once established, Peruvian Apple Cactus develops exceptional drought tolerance and can grow into a substantial multi-stem specimen over time. Mature plants produce large white night-blooming flowers followed by attractive edible fruits known as Peruvian apples.
They look excellent when used as feature specimens, architectural plantings, desert gardens, coastal landscapes, screening, and large containers where strong vertical structure and low water requirements are desired. Its bold silhouette provides year-round impact in modern landscape designs.
