PLANT PROFILE

Betula utilis ‘Jacquemontii’, commonly known as the Himalayan Birch, is a deciduous tree admired for its striking white bark and elegant form. The bark peels naturally in papery sheets, creating year-round visual interest, particularly in winter. Its leaves are ovate, bright green, and turn clear yellow in autumn before falling. Mature trees typically reach 8–12 metres in height with a spread of 4–6 metres, forming a graceful, upright crown.

This species grows at a moderate rate and thrives in cool, temperate climates. Betula utilis ‘Jacquemontii’ prefers moist, well-drained soils and performs best in full sun or part shade. It is frost hardy and low-maintenance once established, requiring only light pruning if necessary. Its bark and foliage provide seasonal variation, making it an excellent choice for structured landscapes.

They look excellent when planted in groups to highlight the white trunks, used as avenue trees, or positioned as feature specimens in lawns or courtyards. Their striking bark colour and manageable size make them highly valued in ornamental and civic landscapes.
