About Your New Betula Pendula Youngii
Betula pendula ‘Youngii’, or Weeping Silver Birch, is a graceful deciduous tree known for its arched, pendulous branches, white papery bark, and fine, serrated green leaves that turn vibrant golden yellow in autumn. A naturally dome-shaped variety, it brings softness and structure to gardens and landscapes.
Growing to approximately 3–5 metres tall and 3–4 metres wide, this tree has a clear stem with cascading foliage, forming an umbrella-like canopy. Its white bark becomes more prominent with age, providing year-round visual interest even when leafless in winter. It prefers full sun to part shade, and thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soils. Once established, it is cold hardy, low maintenance, and ideal for small to medium gardens.
They look excellent when used as specimen trees in lawns, near water features, or in courtyards where their form can be appreciated from all angles. A popular option for adding vertical softness, seasonal colour, and sculptural form.
