About Aloe plicatilis – Fan Aloe
Aloe plicatilis, commonly known as Fan Aloe, is a distinctive evergreen succulent shrub valued for its unusual fan-shaped foliage arrangement and sculptural branching habit. The blue-green leaves are held in neat opposing fans at the ends of the branches, creating a highly architectural appearance unlike any other aloe species.
It performs best in full sun and free-draining soils, thriving in coastal, Mediterranean, and waterwise landscapes. Over time it develops an attractive branching framework with smooth grey trunks and dense foliage fans, providing year-round structure and visual interest. Once established, it demonstrates excellent drought tolerance and requires minimal maintenance.
They look excellent when used as feature specimens, architectural gardens, courtyard plantings, coastal landscapes, and large decorative containers where unique form and evergreen structure are desired. Its distinctive growth habit makes Fan Aloe one of the most recognisable and sought-after Aloe species for contemporary landscape design.
