Agave ovatifolia 'Vanzie' is a selected form of the Whale's Tongue Agave, named for its wide cupped leaves. The rosette is unusually even, each leaf overlapping the last in a tight spiral, and the powder blue colouring holds through summer heat and winter wet alike. Leaves are broad, thick and finished with a dark spine.
Full sun brings out the best colour, and the soil has to drain freely; sitting wet in heavy clay is the one thing it will not accept. It is among the hardiest agaves, taking moderate frost once established, and copes with the cold winters of Canberra, Orange and the Adelaide Hills as readily as coastal warmth.
