About Agave desmettiana – Smooth Agave

Agave desmettiana, commonly known as Smooth Agave, is a fast-growing architectural succulent valued for its elegant blue-green foliage and graceful rosette form. The broad arching leaves create a softer appearance than many traditional Agaves, making it a versatile choice for contemporary gardens, courtyards, and waterwise landscapes.

It performs best in full sun to partial shade and free-draining soils. The smooth, gently arching foliage develops into an attractive symmetrical rosette that provides year-round structure and colour. Once established, it is highly drought tolerant and requires very little maintenance, making it ideal for low-water landscapes.

They look excellent when used as feature specimens, coastal gardens, architectural landscapes, poolside plantings, and decorative containers where strong form and low-maintenance performance are desired. Its softer foliage and relatively fast growth make it one of the most adaptable Agave species for residential gardens.
