About Your New Urbis Range - Slim Cylinder - Natural Cement
The Urbis Slim Cylinder in Natural Cement is a tall, narrow column planter, 45cm in diameter across all three heights. The straight sides and plain light cement grey finish put the emphasis on proportion rather than detail. Heights are 45cm, 65cm and 85cm, so the three can be grouped as a set.
The body is a medium weight composite, lighter than concrete or ceramic but more substantial than fibreglass, which keeps a tall, slim pot stable without making it immovable. Weights are approximately 20kg, 25kg and 35kg from the shortest to the tallest. All three are made for permanent outdoor use.
The narrow footprint suits tight spaces: either side of a front door, along a passage between buildings, on a balcony edge or in a foyer. Plant it with a clipped topiary standard, a slim conifer, a sansevieria, or something trailing that softens the vertical line.
Frequently Asked Questions
About Urbis Slim Cylinder
What sizes does the Slim Cylinder come in?
Three heights are made, all 45cm in diameter: D45cm x H85cm at approximately 35kg, D45cm x H65cm at approximately 25kg, and D45cm x H45cm at approximately 20kg. Because the diameter is constant, the three read as a graduated set when grouped, which is how they are most often used.
What is it made from?
A medium weight composite, lighter than concrete or ceramic but more substantial than fibreglass. In a tall, narrow pot that balance is important: enough mass in the base to resist being knocked over, without the dead weight of solid concrete that would make repositioning it a job for machinery.
What finishes are available?
The standard finish is a light cement grey. Pigmented Charcoal and White Cement are also available. Fine stone paint finishes can be applied in the warehouse, which are completely matt and suited to outdoor exposure. Finishes may vary a little from the cylinder shown in the photograph.
Can it be used indoors?
Yes. The plain cylinder suits interiors, and the column shape works well beside a doorway, at the end of a hallway or in a commercial reception. Indoors, use a liner or a saucer so water cannot reach the floor, and place felt pads underneath before setting it onto timber or stone.
Will a tall pot like this tip over?
It is stable once planted, because the potting mix sits low and adds weight where it counts. The risk is a tall, top heavy plant in an exposed windy position, particularly on a balcony. In that case put a layer of gravel or a heavy base material in before the potting mix.
What plants suit a slim cylinder?
Vertical planting suits the shape. A clipped topiary standard, a slim conifer, a bay cone, a dracaena or a sansevieria all work. Alternatively, plant something trailing such as rosemary, dichondra or a hanging succulent so it spills down the side and breaks the straight line.
How do I clean and care for it?
Wash marks off with mild soapy water and a soft bristle brush such as a nail brush, then rinse. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasives, particularly on a stone paint finish. Keep the drainage clear, and where the pot sits on paving, feet will let the base dry out after rain.
