About Your New Syzygium australe ‘Select’ – Select Lilly Pilly
Syzygium australe ‘Select’, commonly called Select Lilly Pilly, is an evergreen shrub to small tree chosen for its dense growth, glossy foliage, and neat form. New leaves flush with a coppery-red tone before maturing to deep green, providing seasonal contrast. In summer, it produces fluffy white flowers that are followed by small pink berries attractive to birds. Mature plants generally reach 4–6 metres in height and 2–3 metres in width, making them highly versatile in residential and civic landscapes.
This variety has a moderate growth rate and is well adapted to a wide range of soils, provided drainage is adequate. It is tolerant of pruning and responds well to regular trimming, making it especially suited for hedging and screening applications. Syzygium australe ‘Select’ is evergreen, requires little maintenance, and once established, will withstand light frost and short dry periods.
They look excellent when planted as a clipped hedge, used as a dense screen, or positioned as a small feature tree in gardens and courtyards. This cultivar is also valuable in urban plantings and along boundaries where consistent form and foliage coverage are required.
