PLANT PROFILE

Hymenosporum flavum, known as Native Frangipani, is a stunning Australian native tree celebrated for its aromatic, tropical appeal. Growing to 6–10 meters tall and 3–5 meters wide, it features glossy, dark green, slightly wavy leaves that provide lush year-round foliage.

From late spring to early summer, the Native Frangipani delights with fragrant cream-to-deep yellow flowers, filling gardens and landscapes with a sweet, intoxicating scent reminiscent of true Frangipani. Its upright, columnar to slightly spreading form suits both single-trunk and multi-stemmed growth habits.

Thriving in full sun to partial shade and requiring moderate watering, this fast-growing, low-maintenance tree is perfect as a specimen or feature in tropical, native, or sensory gardens. It looks excellent where you want to bring a vibrant, fragrant elegance that truly resonates with lovers of exotic, natural beauty.

Hedging & Screening: Plant 2 m – 2.5 m apart for soft screening with fragrant blooms.

Feature Tree: Plant 3 m – 4 m apart to encourage upright growth and flowering.

Avenue Planting Trees: Plant 5 m – 6 m apart to create a lightly shaded walk with seasonal fragrance.

How to Plant:

  • Choose a location with well-draining soil and full sun to partial shade exposure.
  • Dig a hole twice as wide and as deep as the pot.
  • Remove the tree from the pot and place it in the hole, ensuring it is at the correct depth.
  • Backfill with soil, water thoroughly, and apply a layer of mulch to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.

Use this as a reference when digging your planting hole. We recommend digging at least 10% wider than the dimensions below to encourage strong root development.
