About Your New Delonix regia – Flame Tree / Poinciana
Delonix regia, commonly known as Flame Tree or Poinciana, is one of the most visually spectacular flowering trees in tropical and subtropical climates. It is prized for its fiery scarlet to orange-red flowers, wide-spreading umbrella-like canopy, and finely divided fern-like foliage.
Reaching 8–12 metres in height and 10–15 metres wide, it develops a strong central trunk with a broad, flat crown — providing excellent summer shade. Flowering occurs in late spring to mid-summer, often when the tree is fully leafed, creating a dramatic seasonal display.
They look excellent when used as a feature tree in large open lawns, civic plantings, or tropical gardens where canopy space allows. This species thrives in full sun, requires free-draining soil, and performs best in frost-free locations. Drought-tolerant once established, it is low maintenance and offers unmatched seasonal colour and structural form.
