About Your New Urbis Range - Orb Planter - Natural Cement
The Urbis Orb Planter in Natural Cement is a rounded, low slung bowl from the Urbis landscape range, wider than it is tall with a soft, continuous curve. The standard finish is a light cement grey. Three sizes are made, from D54cm x H43cm up to D110cm x H75cm holding 545 litres.
It is made from a medium weight composite, lighter than concrete or ceramic but more substantial than fibreglass. That balance matters at this diameter, where a ceramic bowl becomes unmanageable. The D110cm size weighs approximately 55kg empty, the D78cm about 30kg and the D54cm about 15kg.
The low, wide form suits places where a tall pot would interrupt a view: a pool surround, a terrace edge, a courtyard centre or a commercial foyer floor. It takes clipped balls, agaves, cycads, mounded succulents or a spreading groundcover. A single orb in an open space reads as sculpture.
Frequently Asked Questions
About Urbis Orb Planter
What sizes and weights are available?
Three sizes are made: D110cm x H75cm at approximately 55kg with a volume of 545 litres, D78cm x H57cm at approximately 30kg, and D54cm x H43cm at approximately 15kg. All weights are for the empty planter. Filled with potting mix and watered, the largest becomes a fixed element.
What is the Orb Planter made from?
A medium weight composite. It is lighter than concrete or ceramic, which is what makes a 110cm bowl practical to place, but more substantial than fibreglass, so it feels solid and holds its curve. It is made for outdoor landscape use in domestic and commercial settings.
How much potting mix does the largest size hold?
The D110cm x H75cm orb holds 545 litres. That is a serious volume of root space for a container, enough to support a well established feature planting rather than seasonal colour. Use a quality free draining potting mix and expect it to settle by a few centimetres after the first watering.
What finishes can it be supplied in?
The natural finish is light cement grey. Pigmented Charcoal and White Cement are also available. Fine stone paint finishes can be applied in the warehouse as well, completely matt and suitable for outdoors. Finishes may vary slightly from the planter shown in the photograph.
Is it lighter than a concrete pot?
Yes, noticeably. A concrete or ceramic bowl of the same diameter would be several times the weight and would need machinery to place. At approximately 55kg empty, the largest orb can be positioned by a small crew, which is the practical difference on a terrace or a podium deck.
What planting suits an orb shape?
Low and rounded planting echoes the form best. A clipped buxus or ficus ball, a cycad, agaves, aloes, mounded succulents, mondo grass or a spilling groundcover all work. Avoid tall, narrow plants, which fight the shape. In the D110cm size a low, spreading feature specimen sits comfortably.
How do I clean and care for it?
Clean marks with mild soapy water and a soft bristle brush such as a nail brush, then rinse. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasives. Keep the drainage clear so water moves out of the base, and sit the planter on feet where it stands on paving so the underside can dry.
