Liguleria Reniformis

Size: 18cm

Ligularia reniformis, commonly known as the Tractor Seat Plant, is celebrated for its large, glossy, kidney-shaped leaves that add lush texture to shaded garden areas. Thriving in part to full shade, it prefers consistently moist soil, making it ideal for underplanting beneath trees or in cooler, shaded spots.

This plant forms tidy clumps with dense, rounded foliage and produces cheerful yellow, daisy-like flowers that brighten shade gardens. It is deciduous in colder climates and semi-evergreen in milder conditions. Low maintenance but moisture-dependent, the Tractor Seat Plant excels as a tropical-themed or shaded garden feature, providing a rich green backdrop for other shade-loving plants.

About

Planting Guide

Plant Spacing

Hedging & Screening: Not suitable – best used for groundcover or foliage accent rather than vertical screening.

Feature Planting (Massed): Plant 0.3 m – 0.8 m apart to create a lush, overlapping canopy of leaves in shaded or dappled light areas.

Accent/Specimen Use: Allow 1.2 m – 1.5 m space around each plant to highlight individual foliage form and texture.

How to Plant Liguleria Reniformis

  1. Choose a shaded or part-shaded location to avoid scorching the leaves.
  2. Dig a planting hole twice as wide as the root ball to facilitate root spread.
  3. Mix in ample organic matter to enhance the soil's fertility and drainage.
  4. Set the plant in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.
  5. Backfill with soil, gently firming around the base.
  6. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch around the base to retain moisture.

Root Ball Dimensions (Width × Depth) For Planting

Use this as a reference when digging your planting hole. We recommend digging at least 10% wider than the dimensions below to encourage strong root development.
