About Ginkgo biloba ‘Fishtail’ – Fishtail Maidenhair Tree
Ginkgo biloba ‘Fishtail’ is a unique selection of the Maidenhair Tree distinguished by its unusually shaped fan leaves with deeply divided lobes resembling a fish tail. The distinctive foliage gives the tree a finer, more ornamental appearance than standard Ginkgo forms while still delivering the exceptional autumn colour for which the species is renowned.
It develops a compact upright habit with attractive green foliage throughout spring and summer before transforming into brilliant golden-yellow during autumn. Like other Ginkgo varieties, it is highly resilient, tolerating drought, pollution, heat, cold, and urban growing conditions once established.
They look excellent when used as feature trees, avenue plantings, courtyard specimens, and collector plantings where unusual foliage and outstanding autumn colour are desired. The distinctive leaf shape makes Fishtail an excellent choice for gardens seeking something different from traditional deciduous trees.
