PLANT PROFILE
Ficus species, commonly grown in standard form, are evergreen trees shaped with a straight trunk and a clipped, rounded crown. Their glossy green leaves are dense and lush, creating a year-round architectural effect. In standard form, they are typically maintained at 2–4 metres tall with a head spread of 1–2 metres, depending on pruning.
These trees grow at a moderate to fast rate in warm, frost-free climates. Ficus Standards are drought tolerant once established and adapt well to a range of well-drained soils. They prefer full sun to part shade and require only regular light pruning to retain their clipped shape. Evergreen foliage provides reliability and structure, making them ideal for formal gardens and contemporary designs.
They look excellent when planted in pairs to frame entrances, displayed in large decorative pots in courtyards or patios, or used in avenues and driveways for a formal effect. Their symmetrical crowns and strong evergreen presence make them popular in civic landscapes, resorts, and residential gardens.
