Ficus Hillii Flash

Size: 400L
Sale price$4,100.00

Ficus hillii ‘Flash’ is a fast-growing evergreen commonly used for dense hedging, privacy screening, and pleaching. With lime-green new growth that contrasts against its glossy, dark green foliage, it delivers a clean, structured look suited to residential and commercial landscapes.

This variety is valued for its compact form, fast establishment, and low maintenance requirements. It responds exceptionally well to pruning, making it easy to maintain at a consistent height and shape — ideal for boundary lines, green walls, or formal hedges.

It grows best in full sun to part shade and performs reliably across a range of soil types. Once established, it holds its structure well and delivers consistent coverage throughout the year.

Ficus ‘Flash’ is one of our best sellers — chosen regularly by landscapers, councils and developers for projects that demand fast results, clean structure, and minimal upkeep.

What is the difference between Ficus Hillii and Ficus Hillii 'Flash'?

Ficus Hillii and Ficus Hillii 'Flash' are both varieties of Ficus microcarpa, commonly known as Hill's Weeping Fig. The key differences between the two are in their growth habits and overall appearance:

'Flash' is particularly popular for hedging and screening due to its compact, bushy nature, making it easier to maintain and shape into a desired form.

Ficus Hillii: The standard Ficus Hillii has a slightly more weeping growth habit, with darker green leaves. It tends to grow broader and more open compared to 'Flash,' which makes it suitable for larger spaces where a natural, slightly cascading appearance is desired.

    About

    Planting Guide

    Plant Spacing

Feature Planting: Space 3 – 4 m apart to showcase structure
    Hedging & Screening: Space 1 – 2 m apart for dense coverage
Avenue Planting: Space 3 – 5 m apart for structured layout

How to Plant Ficus Hillii Flash

    1. Location: Choose a location with full sun to partial shade for optimal growth. Ensure the planting site has well-draining soil and sufficient space for root expansion.
    2. Planting: Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball (see root ball guide in tab below) and just as deep. Place the tree in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Before placing the tree, gently tease the roots apart if they are densely packed or circling the pot. This helps to promote better root development and ensures the roots extend into the surrounding soil, leading to a stronger, healthier plant. Backfill with soil, firming it gently around the roots.
    3. Watering: Water thoroughly after planting and continue to water regularly during the establishment phase. This promotes deep root growth and helps the tree to establish itself quickly.

Root Ball Dimensions (Width × Depth) For Planting

Use this as a reference when digging your planting hole. We recommend digging at least 10% wider than the dimensions below to encourage strong root development.

    • 40cm/45L Pot: 44cm (W) × 41.5cm (D)
