PLANT PROFILE
Delonix regia, commonly known as Flame Tree or Poinciana, is one of the most spectacular flowering trees in tropical and subtropical climates. With its vivid scarlet to orange-red flowers and wide-spreading umbrella-shaped canopy, it makes a dramatic feature in parks, large gardens, and streetscapes.
This fast-growing deciduous tree reaches 8–12 metres in height and up to 15 metres wide, creating a generous shade canopy. It produces masses of clustered flowers in spring and summer, attracting pollinators and wildlife. The fern-like foliage softens its structural form and complements its vibrant blooms.
Highly suited to warm climates, Delonix regia performs best in full sun with well-drained soils. It is not frost-tolerant and requires a sheltered, sunny site to thrive.
This tree looks excellent when used as a bold statement feature in larger gardens, planted in avenues, or providing seasonal colour and structure in tropical and subtropical landscapes.
