Magnolias
Magnolias are deciduous and evergreen flowering trees famous for large fragrant blooms and architectural form. The collection covers the major Australian-suited groups — large evergreen Magnolia grandiflora cultivars including 'Little Gem', 'Teddy Bear', 'Exmouth', 'Coolwyn Gloss' and 'Supergem' for screening and feature planting; classic deciduous M. × soulangeana, M. denudata 'Yulan' and named selections like 'Vulcan', 'Star Wars', 'Felix', 'Sundance' and 'Sunsation' for spring flowering specimens.
Magnolias perform best in full sun to part shade with deep, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and reliable moisture during establishment. They tolerate a wide range of climates, from cool temperate Melbourne and Canberra through to subtropical Brisbane. Evergreen cultivars are frost tolerant once established; deciduous cultivars are notably frost hardy.
They look excellent for feature planting, screening, formal courtyards, avenue planting, and large garden specimens where fragrant flowers, architectural form and reliable year-round structure are required.
