Prunus x blireana, commonly known as Purple-Leaf Plum, is a striking deciduous tree prized for its rich deep purple foliage and showy pink flowers in spring. Growing 4–8 meters tall with a rounded canopy spreading 3–6 meters wide, it adds vibrant color and elegant form to gardens and urban landscapes.
Its standout feature is the dark burgundy-purple leaves that hold their vivid hue throughout the growing season, contrasting beautifully with abundant fragrant double pink blossoms in early spring. These flowers not only enhance curb appeal but also attract pollinators, contributing to a lively garden ecosystem. The smooth grayish-brown bark offers a subtle backdrop that highlights the foliage and flowers.
This tree looks excellent as a specimen or street tree and pairs well with lighter green or silver-leafed underplantings for striking contrast. It thrives best in full sun for peak foliage color but tolerates partial shade. Low-maintenance, it requires minimal pruning to preserve its naturally compact, rounded shape.
