Pinus Halipensis

Pinus halepensis, or Aleppo Pine, is a tough, fast-growing evergreen conifer native to the Mediterranean region. Known for its bluish-green needles and broad, umbrella-shaped canopy, it reaches 10–20 metres tall and spreads 6–10 metres wide. Young trees begin with a pyramidal shape, gradually developing into a wide, open crown with age.

Aleppo Pine is highly drought-tolerant, wind-resistant, and thrives in full sun with minimal maintenance. It performs reliably in coastal, sandy, rocky, or nutrient-poor soils, making it ideal for low-water landscapes, windbreaks, and coastal gardens.

They look excellent when planted in open, dry landscapes to create a sculptural, South of France-style effect, or when used to provide high shade in rural or Mediterranean-themed designs. This species is also well suited for avenue planting, shelterbelts, or naturalistic, low-irrigation landscapes.

Planting Guide

Plant Spacing

Hedging & Screening: Not suitable.

Feature Tree: Plant 5 m – 7 m apart for full canopy and form.

Avenue Planting Trees: Space 6 m – 8 m apart for dramatic rows.

How to Plant Pinus Halipensis

Choose the Right Location: Select a sunny spot with well-draining soil for your Aleppo Pine.

Prepare the Planting Hole: Dig a hole that's as deep and twice as wide as the root ball of your tree.

Position with Care: Place the tree in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil.

Backfill with Soil: Fill the hole with soil, gently tamping it down to remove air pockets.

Water Thoroughly: Give your newly planted Pinus halepensis a thorough watering to help it settle in.

Mulch for Moisture: Apply a layer of mulch around the base to conserve soil moisture and deter weeds.

Root Ball Dimensions (Width × Depth) For Planting

Use this as a reference when digging your planting hole. We recommend digging at least 10% wider than the dimensions below to encourage strong root development.
